Kentucky Derby Texas Style!

Saturday was Derby Day! Growing up in Kentucky that means a lot, living in Texas, not so much. I have always wanted to have a derby party in Texas, but it is hard to get motivated when people ask you what is a derby. The years we were in Kentucky, we would have Lifegroup derby parties and they were always so much fun. Well I met a kindred spirit that also wanted to have a derby party, so this is the year we finally did it!

My friend Amy and her precious Darling Daughter

We sent out evite  invitations that requested guests bring their favorite southern side, appetizer or dessert. Men were to wear bow ties, collared shirt not required, and ladies a derby worthy hat. Generously we had it at Amy and David's house and they smoked some amazing meat, we wouldn't be in Texas without brisket!

Mr. Wonderful wore a UK bow tie!

Amy had everything at her house so cute! I didn't get as many pictures as I would have liked, I have a hard time balancing just enjoying a party and taking pictures!

We kept it pretty simple. I ordered a few "official" Derby items just to make it a little more authentic. The silverware was wrapped and tied with cute paper hats! The rolled red napkins placed in the basket loosely reflected roses and a nod to the run for the roses, the winning horse is draped in red roses!

The Derby art was made using the Waterlogue App!  My favorite app ever!  Such an easy way to make super cute, unique art!

A cute sign was displayed in the kitchen, and the water had a homemade label and was a nod to bourbon in Kentucky. We enjoyed "The Maker's Mark" water!

Each guest was able to take home a recipe for Kentucky Derby Pie Bars. Derby Pie is famous in the state and the bars were a great way to feed more people!

The ladies in their Derby hats! We had so much fun, already looking forward to next year.
